Collaborate to improve the well-being and quality of life of children with illnesses that cannot be cured.

Pediatric palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life of the child with a life-limiting illness and on supporting the family. It takes into account the physical, emotional, spiritual and educational dimensions.

This type of care is appropriate from the moment a life-limiting illness is diagnosed and throughout the child's life, in the chronic phases, in the last days and during bereavement.

Description

Pediatric palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life of the child with a life-limiting illness and on supporting the family. It takes into account the physical, emotional, spiritual and educational dimensions. It is aimed at children affected by all types of serious, life-limiting illnesses, not only cancer.

The Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation, which works to support and accompany children suffering from serious, life-limiting illnesses throughout the entire process, proposes the creation of a unique and pioneering center: a children's hospice, a center prepared to help and care for the child and his or her family in a comprehensive way at this difficult time.

The center will be located in the Santa Victoria Pavilion, placed in a historic and emblematic place in the city of Barcelona with a long tradition and social commitment to the most vulnerable groups: the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. This children's hospice will provide respite stays, leisure activities and family support, as well as adequate spaces to accompany them in the last days of life.

Activities
  • Respite and family rest.
  • Accompaniment during the last days of life.
  • Complementary care: physiotherapy, water area, music therapy, animal-assisted therapy, multisensory stimulation.

  • Bereavement care.
